As MCC workers serve around the world, they often find that the human needs they work to meet – such as poverty , hunger, poor health and education – are caused by governments’ political decisions and actions. Because of this, MCC sometimes calls on governments to change policies that harm people. MCC workers sometimes take stands based on Christian faith, placing themselves on one side or another of a political issue.

Following are some questions and responses raised by the issues of faith, politics and working with people who are powerless.

Does MCC have a political agenda?

Why does MCC sometimes question Canadian and U.S. government policies and practices?

Doesn’t being “in the world, but not of the world” (John 17:11-16) mean we shouldn’t take stands on policy issues which are part of this world?

Will changed laws and government policies make a difference anyway?

Who does MCC represent when making statements or expressing political opinions to government?
