War in Afghanistan

As an organization of Anabaptist peace churches, MCC Canada is deeply concerned about the War in Afghanistan and Canada’s role in the NATO mission. We believe that peace is achieved through peaceful means, and that the current war effort is serving to extend and deepen the conflict. Based on our own experience and the concerns of our Afghan partners, we believe that a better way forward for Canada is to increase its investments in poverty alleviation, to separate military involvement from the delivery of aid and development assistance, and to promote a comprehensive peace process that will involve all sectors of society.

MCC Canada’s Ottawa Office engages in advocacy on the war in Afghanistan by:
•     Listening to the voices of MCC partner groups in Afghanistan
•     Monitoring developments in Afghanistan
•     Writing letters to the Prime Minister and key cabinet ministers
•     Informing and engaging MCC supporting churches and others in witnessing for peace in Afghanistan.
